Mineseeker to Supply New Cost Effective AIDS Tests to Africa

“Fear is a terrible affliction. Whether it is the fear of treading on a land mine or the fear of not knowing if you are HIV positive”. Nelson Mandela, Johannesburg

The Mineseeker Foundation has reached an agreement with Calypte, a US pharmaceutical company, to purchase a new aids test product called Aware™, that is based on a saliva swab that can be used in the field by non-medical personnel.

The Foundation will fund the purchase of 1 million swabs, with an option on a further 4 million units. The swabs, now approved by the South African Health Authorities, has been trialled in Kenya and has proved to be as effective as leading blood test products - but without the necessity of a costly, medically supervised support structure.

The Mineseeker Foundation is primarily involved with the removal of land mines, but the Foundations ‘Sole of Africa’s’ initiative, now being launched in Mozambique, includes returning mine free land back to agriculture and an educational and empowerment programme that trains local people to farm. They also support vocational training for people unable to find work, including land mine and aids victims.

Mike Kendrick: Founder of Mineseeker
Mike Kendrick, Founder of Mineseeker said today. “While the primary objective of Mineseeker is the eradication of land mines, we are also committed to the regeneration of the local communities. Without that the clearance of mines is only part of the answer. Land will be returned to the people to grow food and a foster management programme installed to help re-establish themselves. This will mean growing good quality crops that will lift the natural immunity system – particularly helping aids sufferers. The introduction of the Aware product will help re-build the confidence of these communities.”

The Mineseeker Foundation Patrons include Nelson Mandela, Sir Richard Branson, Queen Noor of Jordon, Graca Machel, international businessman John Paul DeJoria and the actor Brad Pitt. The Foundation is supported by other leading NGOs including Feed the Children, The International Youth Foundation and The Salvation Army. The test packs will be donated to NGOs for distribution in the field or sold at cost.

Nelson Mandela said: “As a patron of Mineseeker, I totally support the aids test initiative. The tests will remove the fear of many people who believe they may be infected and who are nervous about blood testing. Fear is a terrible affliction, whether it is the fear of treading on a mine or the fear not knowing if you are HIV positive.”

John Paul DeJoria added “As a Patron of Mineseeker, it is my honour to be able to thank all the people and companies that are coming together in this initiative to help conquer AIDS in Africa”.

The Mineseeker Foundation

The Mineseeker Foundation is a non-profit organisation, endorsed by the United Nations and using technology licensed by the British Ministry of Defence. This technology represents a breakthrough that will revolutionise the international quest to rid the world of landmines.

Mineseeker will work to detect and map landmines utilising airships and the world’s foremost, ground penetrating radar system. Mineseeker technology has been tested in Kosovo under live conditions with spectacular results.

The Mineseeker Foundation was established to:

· Promote mine action

· Improve technology in mine action.

· Develop an effective landmine detection system using unique technology, mounted on an airship.

· Provide a significant tool in the humanitarian de-mining effort to provide fast, accurate minefield mapping, allowing conventional de-mining to be concentrated where it is needed.

· Enable immediate release of the estimated 80% of land currently classified as mined,
but which in fact contains no mines or other unexploded ordnance.

· Release wrongly classified land through survey in order to encourage economic growth and stability.

· Support The landmine survivor’s network.

Stellar Cast Unites to Turn Killing Fields Into Kitchens; TheSoleofAfrica.org and The Mineseeker Foundation Work to Rid the Planet of Landmines in 10 Years

There are over 100 million landmines buried beneath the surface of the earth rendering a quarter of a million square miles of land useless. Worse still, this invisible hazard kills or maims someone every 20 minutes.

Now, breakthrough ground-penetrating radar technology and an unprecedented international coalition of business executives, political leaders, civil rights advocates and Hollywood elite are banding together with The Mineseeker Foundation to purge the planet of landmines and return the land to agricultural use in the next 10 to 15 years.

The initiative is called the Sole of Africa Campaign, and the alliance to turn the killing fields of Mozambique into a kitchen for Africans includes patrons for The Mineseeker Foundation: former South African President Nelson Mandela; Queen Noor of Jordan; children's advocate Graca Machel; businessmen Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Atlantic and John Paul DeJoria of John Paul Mitchell Systems; and Hollywood actor Brad Pitt.

The Sole of Africa's motto for making a difference in the world is, "It's time to put your foot down." The American public is being called upon to help rewrite history and get involved.

The Mineseeker Foundation will use airships to deploy state of the art technology created by the British Ministry of Defense to locate landmines. As the mines are removed, the Sole of Africa Campaign will take the land and form farming cooperatives. Working in conjunction with humanitarian organizations such as Feed the Children, The Salvation Army; and educational organizations and leaders such as The Pacific Institute and Mark Victor Hansen, co-creator of Chicken Soup for the Soul, the cooperatives will train local citizens to plant and harvest crops to sell -- providing food for millions and strengthening the economies of countries formerly unable to use their land.

"Before this new technology," says Mineseeker founder and Chairman Mike Kendrick, "Current machinery and strategy could only clear 40 square meters per day. Now, we have the ability to scan the ground at 100 meters per second. What would have taken 500 years to accomplish can be done in our lifetime. It's time to act, and we've selected Mozambique as the first country to send out our airships and then return its land to the people. Then our alliance will move country by country."

"Mozambique is like a Garden of Eden without food," relates Charlie Gay, USA executive director of Mineseeker and the Sole of Africa campaign. "The country was decimated by over 30 years of war. Here is this vast fertile lush land, but no one can farm it for fear of the mines in the soil. However, with 12 years of peaceful government, we now have a three-year road map in place which will result in agricultural sustainability."

The Mineseeker Foundation is a non-profit association organized by British research lab Defense Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) and the airship manufacturer The Lightship Group. Based in the UK, its purpose is to de-mine former war zones by utilizing sensitive radar equipment to detect buried landmines from airships.

Oscar Pistorius:
Ambassador For the Sole of Africa

Oscar Pistorius, bilateral-amputee and gold medalistOscar Pistorius, bilateral-amputee and gold medalist at the Athens 2004 Paralympics

After a good start on the first weekend of the Paralympic Games in Athens 2004, South African athletes have continued raking in the medals, with double amputee Oscar Pistorius putting in two very different but equally sensational performances in the 200 metres.

Pistorius, who was born without shin bones, captured the imagination of the Athens crowd in his qualifying heat on Monday when he fell at the start. Instead of throwing in the towel, he scrambled back to his feet and took off in pursuit of his opposition.

Incredibly, he not only caught up with the rest of the field, he passed them - his winning time of 23.42 seconds a double amputee world record.

On September 07 2006, Oscar became the first amputee (single or double) to run the 100 in under 11.2 , 200 in under 22 and the 400 in under 50.

Oscar is a shining example of of never giving up and we are proud to have Oscar as the Ambassador of the Sole of Africa Campaign. You inspire us Oscar!

The Sole of Africa is a campaign presented by Mineseeker Foundation dedicated to changing history in our lifetime.

How will we change history?
We have a technology and a plan to end hunger and generate sustainable economic vitality in 70 areas around the world. It's not only possible, it's proven.

How is this possible?
We know how to quickly identify and eliminate land mines in these areas and return 85% of the mapped land instantly into workable, productive farm soil, while uplifting citizens with a defined plan of aid and education.
